Virginia Code §46.2-1052 applies uniformly in Richmond City, Chesterfield County, Henrico County, and throughout the Greater Richmond region. No local ordinances vary the state requirements. The same standards apply on I-95 through downtown Richmond, on the Powhite Parkway, and on Route 60:
- Front side windows: must allow more than 50% VLT
- Back side windows: must allow more than 35% VLT
- Rear window: must allow more than 35% VLT
- Windshield: non-reflective tint above AS-1 line only
Richmond Enforcement Agencies
The Richmond Police Department, Virginia State Police (Area 4 covers the Richmond area), Chesterfield County Police, and Henrico County Police all enforce tint violations. The I-95/I-295 interchange and downtown Richmond corridors see the most traffic-stop activity. Richmond also has significant commercial vehicle inspection activity that may flag civilian vehicles with non-compliant tint.
